CPI Card Group Joins the FIDO Alliance, Advocates for Worldwide Authentication Standards
Littleton, Colo. (January 25, 2016) – CPI Card Group (Nasdaq: PMTS; TSX: PNT), a global leader in financial and EMV chip card production and related services, today announced that it has formally joined the FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance. Committed to exceptional authentication standards for payment technologies, CPI Card Group will work with current Alliance members to share technology and promote open specifications to enable authentication methods that are more secure and easy to use.
“The decision to join the FIDO Alliance was born out of our vision to deliver world-class customer experiences through our technology, spanning smart payment card manufacturing to mobile payments services,” said Steve Montross, CEO of CPI Card Group. “As active stewards of consumer privacy and protection, our company is proud to join like-minded organizations to pool our resources to create safer transaction and computing environments for all.”
The FIDO Alliance was created in 2012 as a means to increase interoperability among strong authentication technologies, in addition to alleviating problems individual users face in creating and remembering multiple usernames and passwords. FIDO specifications enable smartphones, tablets, PCs and laptops to replace password dependency and exposure of sensitive user information by automatically providing user credentials when they are required.
“The FIDO Alliance is pleased that our associate member CPI Card Group is dedicated to the vision for industry standards for strong authentication. They join a powerful FIDO ecosystem vital to widespread adoption of interoperable, strong authentication that simplifies the user experience while raising security and privacy at the same time,” said Brett McDowell, executive director of the FIDO Alliance.
About The FIDO Alliance
The FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance, http://www.fidoalliance.org, was formed in July 2012 to address the lack of interoperability among strong authentication technologies, and remedy the problems users face with creating and remembering multiple usernames and passwords. The Alliance is changing the nature of authentication by developing standards-based specifications for simpler, stronger authentication that define an open, scalable, interoperable set of mechanisms that reduce reliance on passwords. FIDO authentication is stronger, private, and easier to use when authenticating to online services.
